I was unsure of the nature of her question as she knew I was her therapist. I answered with a babbling, informal resume. She interrupted. “I don’t care about your job…what do you do…to live…to play…to stay alive while you are alive?” She had been diagnosed with that which is incurable 2 weeks after retiring. It was the retirement she had saved for all her life. It was a retirement she would not live to see. She died rich and without memories of play. She died regretful. She changed my life.
